A new poll from SurveyUSA shows Democrat incumbent Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham with a 48% approval rating, including 51% support on her handling of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The survey of 2,175 New Mexicans contains some good news and bad news for Republicans seeking to unseat the incumbent this November.
The good news is that the governor’s approval rating has fallen 2% points since July 2021, and the percentage of people who “strongly disapprove” has jumped 10 percentage points in less than a year.
The bad news is that there’s still a majority of New Mexicans who appear to support the very policies that destroyed the state’s economy, forced vaccinations on certain workers, and muzzled children as a condition of attending school or playing sports.
Asked if they felt more or less safe as a result of the actions Grisham took during the pandemic, 39% said more, 22% said less, and 32% responded “no difference.”
As COVID cases are on another upward trajectory across the country, many predict that Democrats will lock down their states again and force vote-by-mail this November.
The poll was paid for by KOB4 news and was conducted between April 29 and May 07, 2022.
