Resisting the Winds

Celebrating Dave Rubin’s Womb Rental is Conservative Hypocrisy

Two stories broke last week which proved that many of our conservative gatekeepers are only interested in conserving the right side of the Overton Window, failing to realize that the point of conservatism is to keep the window from moving.

Last week Lia Thomas used his male biology to steal a women’s swimming championship, a story which rightly garnered outrage from conservatives. However, we saw a very different side from many of these same conservatives when another story broke: Dave Rubin and his long-term roommate announced on Twitter that they would be stripping two human beings of having mothers by renting women’s bodies to grow children for them to raise, and then they used her ultrasound photos to stage something resembling a pregnancy announcement.

These two stories are not as different as you might think. In fact, they are remarkably similar.

Both are egregious examples of pretending; they exhibit men living in a make-believe world. Lia Thomas is rebelling against the body God gave him by pretending his body is what it is not. Dave Rubin is living in the same fairy tale by rebelling against the natural function and purpose of his body, the one assigned in nature by God. There is no less delusion in a man referring to himself as a woman than there is with a man believing it is natural and good for a male body to have sex with another male body.

The sexes have a very clear divine design. Men cannot reproduce together.

Their sexual organs are not complementary, and homosexual sex is a very dangerous practice. This is exactly why the Apostle Paul felt comfortable denouncing homosexuality based on it being “contrary to nature” (Romans 1:26-27).

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Romans 1:26-27

Rubin adds to his mockery of God by calling him and his roommate “married” even though that word is not his to redefine, and by bypassing the natural way God made us to be fruitful.

Both Dave Rubin and Lia Thomas are denying reality, rebelling against the God Who made them, and trivializing womanhood in the process, yet many conservative voices like Megan Kelly, Glenn Beck, and Blaze media praised and congratulated Rubin while Thomas has unanimously received the scorn of conservative elites.

Unless we were wrong to assume “conservatives” were in the business of “conserving,” it is only fair to ask: what exactly are conservatives trying to conserve?

If there is anything one ought to expect a conservative to conserve it would be the basic biological realities of male and female. But those biological realities extend beyond whom we ought to be swimming against; they also extend to who we sleep with and how we continue the human race.

Trying to normalize women with penises is no less offensive to reason, nature, and God, than trying to normalize two men having sex while pretending to be married and renting out women’s wombs.

Men are men, women are women, and they are complimentary to one another. If conservatives cannot conserve that, then we are left to wonder if they will be able to conserve anything at all.

Perhaps the object lesson to this is that conservatism is not enough, an idea Pastor Douglas Wilson agrees with,

“Western values have value only if they are a coded way of referring to something else. And that something else cannot be another horizontal fact, like representative government, or women’s rights, or anything like that. That just pushes the question back a step. Why should we prefer those?”

Empires of Dirt, 54

Unless one has a transcendent standard of that which is objectively good, true, and beautiful, one has no standard for conservation. Without that standard, conservatives do not know what to conserve.

Denouncing homosexuality was once a basic conservative position, but that fight has been altogether conceded today. Therefore, if more conservatives do not realize their need for something objective, then it’s only a matter of time before blue-check-mark conservatives will be congratulating the men who grow out their hair and dominate women in the pool.
