ABQ Man Tells Police He Strangled Wife, Believing She Was A Demon (Updated)

At 02:56 AM today (May 24, 2021), Lee Marco Cuellar, age 41, was arrested for an “Open Count of Murder in the first degree (willful & deliberate, felony murder, or depraved mind).” 

According to public records, Cuellar was arrested at 9927 Rio Madre Avenue SW in Albuquerque, and booked in the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center Psychiatric Acute Care unit. 

The Albuquerque Journal reported at 5:33 PM Sunday (May 23, 2021) that police detectives were on the scene with two mobile crime units.

According to KRQE, Cuellar threw a pill bottle at a police patrol vehicle and stated he needed to be arrested for killing his wife.

Police say while questioning Cuellar he told them he had to strangle his wife because he believed she was a demon and was going to hurt his family. Cuellar is charged with an open count of murder.


Officers found the spouse deceased under a blanket in their residence.
